ImagineTheEnding [userpic]

August 3rd, 2008 (02:34 pm)

So we watched Teeth the other day and I must say it is hilarious. The plot was horrible, but it was worth watching for the "AAAHHHHH!!" and the "OH DEAR GOD!" that were being echoed throughout the house. I think everyone should watch the movie. It prevents pregnancy =D.

Other news...Lessons start today! Isn't that exciting? We are also are doing videos with the lessons because it's easier to teach that way. Words over the net can be taken so wrong. A few days ago we completed our "bios" for the lessons. If you want to see those or keep up with other videos, we have made a separate screen name for that called DAComics101. I'm telling live journal this cause no one ever comes here =).

July 26th, 2008 (11:59 pm)

So today we bought new stuff for our dorm. We did this pack and storage thing so that we can pick it up when we arrive at New York. I'm excited. The whole room is black white with some red. i want it to look nice since the dorm looks like a freaking asylum. If I have to sleep there for a year I better like it. Anyway, I'm excited about moving. It's a new life for me and I get to leave what's bad (and good) here at home.

The other thing I am excited about is the online school. We have 5 entries already, and possibly more coming up. I'm kind of wondering how much the entry comic cut down students. It's a little hard, but I hope it didn't discourage people. Truly, I hope this whole idea works out cause it will help a lot of people. Let's just see where it goes.

Biting more than I can chew

July 15th, 2008 (01:08 am)

For a while now, ever since I've been teaching James I've been thinking about a lot of things. I remember how hard it was for me to start comics. Paneling was hard, and it felt as though no one could help me out. How hard it is to draw a story you love causes a lot of people not to pursue in drawing. This worries me. I see countless of people getting rejected for reasons they don't know. Comics aren't being taught very well. There are very few stores, and comics are looked down on greatly. I wish to stunt that.

So, I have would like to start doing to online lessons starting August. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it, but James has improved a lot. Recently I made a journal asking if people were interested and 18 have replied saying yes. This surprises me. I thought 3 people were going to reply to tell the truth. O__o.

I almost want to chicken out a little. I'm new at this, and now am feeling greatly intimidated. I feel the pressure of it now. For years I've had self esteem problems and now I am teaching people. 18 people. I am trying not to allow my confidence get me. Even if i think my comics need work and that I need to know a lot more, I need to make myself believe I am. If I loose self esteem then I'll never grow up. I'll never be anything.

Time is also pressuring me. I'm starting college soon, so I am worried that I am biting more than I can chew. However, I have decided that I am going to send The ID and The Ego submission in August with some help, and work in New York until I get a reply back from the company. If they say yes than I stop working and focus on the comic and college. The lessons will be done on Mondays. I hope they don't take that long since I have Jenni, and Michelle's help. All I will have to do is critic since I already have everything organized from teaching James. It's a savior that James was the first student. He was so determined that it made things easier to sort.

Anyway, I am really flattered and very happy. I think this is a good way to spread the art of comics. If anyone reading this knows someone who wants help, or anyone would want to be a help this cause then contact me at ImagineTheEnding@gmail.com. I would like this to work. This would help people =)

And to entertain you people:

Jeez, so much crap has been happening.

This summer is on the low end. I've had my wisdom teeth taken out, 4 shots, caught the stomach flu, and have been in 2 sexist fights all in 2 weeks. I swear people.. The first fight was an accident and the second one was because this guy insulted me. That went on for a while and he din even say sorry. I din know someone could be so narrow minded.

*sigh* Well, we almost have the submission for The ID and the ego done. I can't wait for that. It's taking longer than needed.

Edit: and almost everyone I know fits these stereo types! DAMMIT PEOPLE! D:

Chumble Spuzz

July 9th, 2008 (01:11 am)

CHUMBLE SPUZZ REVIEW VOLUME 1:

Chumble Spuzz was a tricky book for me. That and ironic. When I first saw the cover I remember thinking to myself "This must be the worst book in this company". However, I am glad to say the phrase "Don't judge a book by it's cover" came running strong. I've wanted to read it ever since I read the preview.

I just got Chumble Spuzz recently and I have to say it has to be one of the best comics in SLG. Perhaps it's polished and perhaps it doesn't have the best storyline you've seen in 20 years, but it hits the spot. The comic book isn't phony. When you read it you know it came from the heart. When you read it you know that Ethan Nicolle wrote it and not some other guy trying to be someone they're not. It has character. Character that I don't see in comics much. When you read it, it makes you feel something. Maybe it makes you want to take a long bath because you've just seen a pig being grind into sausage, but at least it's something. All comics feel the same. Michelle described it to me as "It feels like you are in a big stuffy room wearing a dress that's too small, or a suit that itches". I had to agree. Comics do feel that at times. Things like Chumble Spuzz is just good fun. It's not trying too hard.

Another thing that I like is the pacing. When I read one volume comics it often feels cramped. It's like watching a movie on fast forward. Chumble Spuzz wasn't like that. When I got done it actually felt like I received a well rounded idea without bumps or holes. The characters were lovable and easy to understand. It kind of reminds me of the good old cartoons I used to watch when I was a little kid. Back when things didn't have to be quite so politically correct.

I think this book is original, and every one should pick it up, old fashioned cover included.

ZOMBIE CALLING REVIEW:
So I’ve been hearing a lot of things about Zombie Calling. Countless reviews, praise, and the creator , Faith Hicks, has even received as award for best creator this year. After hearing so much of this, I decided to try out this zombie legend comic. I didn’t see what the big deal in the comic was at first. Not because it looks bad, but it just seemed normal. To my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a simple, funny, ridiculous story about three friends trying to get through a zombie invasion. It’s a good comic just to sit around on a lazy day to read. For the most part, I found myself giggling to myself on the couch which was a nice change. There just isn’t enough light hearted humor anymore. I’m getting tired of the horribly vulgar humor that’s so popular now-a-days. Zombie Callings isn’t too violent, too sexual, or too brutal for anyone who just wants to read a comic for good fun.

There were only a few things I disliked about Zombie Calling. I didn’t care for the way the zombies were introduced. I believe that for this comic, the first time you see these zombies it should sell the comic, that way no matter what, the rest of the comic pulls off humorous and comfortable. When Joss meets the zombies it’s a casual walk to buy some drinks. As fun as that is the meeting wasn’t shocking or a hilarious surprise. It makes the zombies look a bit bland. The other thing that bothered me is the constant blunt panels. It suffocated some good laughs, and time for humor.

**Heather’s vocabulary:
A blunt panel is when a panel has no angle what-so-ever. Normally these panels are done in doubles. If done singular, the panel may have a lot of space around the character. This is to pull off a blunt observation, or joke. Normally there is only one quote in the panel.

Last, I didn’t care for the ending (SPOILER). Joss goes to England at the end and seems to forget the zombies. Sure, the story is simple, but she can’t just simply forget something that transformed her whole school. It makes the comic much more unrealistic than it needs to be. That’s my opinion however. It’s a comic so reality is shot.
Overall, if there was a sequel I would buy it. The characters are fun and interesting.

Plot: 8/10
Paneling: 8/10
Characterization: 9/10

It's Doodle! =D. Aaron A drew this for me as a commission. I also have the sketch at my house. Gonna frame it and such. Uhm...this is also not the same version on his site. The mouth is kinda weird and he the one on the site has it fixed. Either way he is totally awesome at drawing.

He has his commissions at his site, www.heartshapedskull.com. They are pretty awesome, actually. Especially the new batch.

For other news, I may be going to San Diego Comic Con next year. It all depends on if I get The ID And The Ego published by any companies. Plus, I have to save up 500 more dollars. I really wanna go though. It looks like a lot of fun.

I hope to see Nat and cool peeps there. =)
